I've been painting

I've never taken an art class, but I've always wanted to be a  painter. I haven't really painted anything until this past month because, well I can't draw and didn't think I could paint. With some support from my husband I decided to hit up a craft store and buy some supplies. Acrylics, canvases, knives and brushes. The whole shopping experience alone was very fun and exciting. Thanks to Youtube and long 'painting-obsessed' nights, i'm happy to say i'm now a painter. A painter in the very literal sense- an artist who paints pictures. maybe not good, maybe just ok, but a painter nonetheless.

my work table.

The painting in the center- the vase of flowers and fruit- was my first painting. I used one palette knife and acrylics

This is actually a 'marble painting' that Evelyn and I did together. I put paint in the center of the canvas and we flicked marbles back and forth to eachother
over the canvas for a good hour of messy fun. This is a perfect 'modern art' exploration project to do with kids!

This portrait of Evelyn is my latest finished painting. I'm actually pretty proud of the likeness, and I think I did a good job for a first time portrait! Next up, Flora.

Now even with scrubbing my hands with steel wool (ouch) there is still remnants of paint on my cuticles- and I like that. I have a pair of baggy denim jeans, with holes in the knees that I use to never wear, but now I wear them whenever I paint and they are my new favorite jeans. There is an easel in the once empty corner of my front room. When Evelyn or Flora see my paintings framed on the wall they say, "mommy, so bootysul!" and I like that.

  1. I love it all! I especially love your second painting...hopefully the one I'm doing that's similar at Social Paintbrush will turn out just as neat as yours. If not, you'll have to give me some pointers ;) I'm excited for our next knitting date soon too.

    4. YAY! haha I think I have carpal tunnel from my knitting marathon I had the past 4 days to finish my Utah pair...I'm really going to have it after the next 3 pairs I have to make. But they're such a joy to make, I'm excited. Plus, it's an excuse to go to Sin City Knit Shop and buy more yarn ;)
