Brush Optional

As a parent, there are times when you put your foot down and insist that your children follow your lead- for instance, teaching them to use a fork and spoon, not their hands. Other times, hand usage is a little more lenient. Like when your children start rubbing their bodies with paint, you could either stop them and repeatedly show them the correct method of brush on paper...or you could just let them at it and get the bath water ready. I did the later.

After all, its just washable paint. Not spaghetti sauce.

  2. Good choice. :) I hope that when my son is old enough to do the same thing, I forget about how the mess stresses me out and make the same choice.

    1. It's a hard choice to make, but sometimes you will be worn so thin all you can do is throw your hands in the air and laugh! That is like the 'Mommy Reset Button'

  6. Oh...it's my job to teach my daughter to use eating utensils...I suppose I should probably address that soon :) Seriously though, I like your style we take a similar approach at my house.

    1. Right! I will give my children the 'tools' to life but in the end they have to decide how to use them...and if they choose to use those tools to paint all over themselves, well so be it. They will just have to deal with the consequence of playing in the hose to clean up ;)

  7. I LOVE THIS!!! My kiddos regulary cover themselves in finger paint (or dirt!) but you wouldn't believe the number of parents I encounter who are afraid of a little mess. Stumbled upon your blog via Top Baby Blogs and just signed up to follow. Really like your blog:)
