I am just THRILLED to have the Editor-in-Chief and founder of Babiekins Magazine, Priscila Barros, here with us this morning for an interview and giveaway! Babiekins Magazine has to be my FAVORITE magazine geared toward trendsetting children and their fashionista mothers. So when the lovely Priscila not only complimented my blog, but showed interest in being featured on it- I had to jump up and do the happy dance. So without any further rambling of how much I la la la love this magazine, lets get right to the good stuff...
Can you share the dreams and goals that Babiekins Magazine is striving to achieve?
Can you share the dreams and goals that Babiekins Magazine is striving to achieve?
I would love to see Babiekins in print and in different languages as well. I think there is defiantly a void in the childrens fashion world when it comes to Magazines. Kids now a days have such a say in what they wear and its so fun to see fashion involve for them. I think parents also are craving a more "edgy" kids entertainment magazine that doesn't involve a overly cheesy cover but something they can actually look through and say "I want that dress for my daughter!!!"
I love how Babiekins magazine strikes the perfect balance of enjoyment for both mother and child. The fashion pieces are inspiring to me, and all the illustrated stories and print outs were very entertaining for my daughters! What inspired you to start a fashion magazine geared toward not only fashion conscious mothers, but to their children as well?
Im glad to hear that! I have had so many mothers write me to tell me that their kids enjoyed the magazine. It was such a compliment because our magazine is plainly that- a kids magazine. I want it to be entertaining to both kids and parents and want both of them to get excited about each issue. We try to involve our readers as much as possible, from the little personality story (readers can send in a picture and answer some questions about their child and we illustrate a story about them) to the many printables we include in the magazine, its all for the kids and family to enjoy.
How was the 'Babieskins' name thought up, and why was it chosen?
I get this question many times. Babiekins is something I've always called my kids. It was also what some of my favorite paper dolls were called.
Can you share with us some of the steps involved in getting each Babiekins issue ready to be viewed and adored
I have to figure out what the issue will be about- it all has to flow well. I figure out the different shoots we want to include, have to get the contributors lined up and get all the art in place. Its kinda of a long process and hard sometimes because as a creative person my mind can think of one concept and it grows and involves and when you add my staff who are also very creative it ends up being a little crazy. We joke that we get headaches after our meetings because of the creativity overload haha.
What are some unique aspects of the magazine that you are most proud of?
I am SUPER proud that Babiekins is known and seen all over the world. When I started the magazine I didnt want a vibe that just was strictly appealing to people in the US but I wanted to appeal to the whole world. We have been contacted by so many high profile designers, bloggers, photographers and artists from all over the globe that want to work with us and its defiantly something that makes me smile. We have even been in Vogue Kids Brasil as one of their favorite online magazines!
One of my favorite parts of the magazine are the interviews with different artists; photographers, shop owners, handmade gurus and emerging online boutiques. What do you look for when choosing such talented individuals to feature in the magazine?
We love love love anyone on etsy and love to support new brands and designers. I think its hard and overwhelming especially as woman who are mothers and have that life to even think about starting something like a shop! I myself am a mom to 2 little boys and Its crazy to think all that I have accomplished in less than 2 years!
When I look for a person to interview I make sure first they are in line to Babiekins look and feel. I am also very visual if they have a beautiful product then I know others will want to know about it.
When drooling over the magazine's fashion editorials, I was pleased to see a unique combination of designer, vintage and indie clothing worn by the adorable models. What message is Babiekins trying to send on style and budget?
I think that our tagline "for the trendsetting child" is exactly what I am wanting people to see. Its very easy to go and buy a designer shirt, pants and shoes but to me thats not stylish or "trendy". To me , anyone that can mix and match items and use found things from thrift shops and add it to their designer wardrobe are the real trendsetters!
I dont go out and buy my kids 40 dollar shirts and then pair it with 200 jeans, it doesnt make and scene! They are 3 and 6! They do however love to pick our vintage items to add to their outfit and they feel like they make it their own! Its cute to see what they like and what they pick when they are out with me at the thrift shops!
Do you have any last thoughts or words you like like to share with us?
We are always looking for models, artists, photographers and shops so if you are someone you think we would love to feature please email us. We love notes about how you think we are doing! :) Also please spread the word about Babiekins to everyone you think will enjoy it! info@babiekinsmag.com

Amanda...you've been busy! The blog looks fantastic and what a great interview with Priscila! I think I've decided that Babiekins is my favourite as well--a great mix of keeping things childish with a bit of an edge...but not too much (the kids still look like kids in Babiekins!).
